Family Christmas

Christmas days are always beautiful days for me.  On 23rd I will spend my time to clean my house and with colourful papers and other decorations like preparing the ‘Pulkood’ and Christmas Tree. Rather than for the Christmas Day, I am always excited to watch my mothers surprising face. Even though the Pre Christmas preparations are like a ritual for me, I will always try to make every year something different and unique.

The Christmas Eve day will be the day like all others, preparing for the Christmas Day celebrations like choosing a dress for Christmas from the vast varieties of models and designs that textiles can offer (within my budget and preferences). After that, we will visit the supermarket for purchasing the necessary items for preparing the lunch and dinner and snacks for the evening chat time.

By Evening all my relatives and my close friends will gather together at my house for the Chrismas Eve and Christmas Day programmes. All of them will bring all kind of gifts including snacks, dress, among other things. We will inaugurate the party by tasting the homemade wine brought by my Aunt. We will spend the entire Pre-Christmas night by talking about the whole things under the sun (except politics), we will play games, make fun of others (I will be the primary prey) and the Christmas eve will end so fast before we even think of it.

Christmas is the day I love the most because of the multiple variations of cuisines that will be arranged on our dining table. The breakfast menu will always be simple with either Dosa, Iddily, Appam or Puttu with Chutney or Kadala Curry along with  Tea and Coffee (exclusively for me). A large number of dishes will always make lunch rather late, but it will always be worth waiting.

The lunch table with Fried Rice, Palakkadan Matta Rice, Chicken Curry, Beef Roast (optional), Salad, Pappad, Pickle and Veg Kurma (for two vegetarians among us). The lunch will always be too heavy for us; as a result, we will go for a power nap. The power nap will be followed by the Christmas premiere time accompanied by tea and snacks. Followed by dinner, dinner will be rather simple with Chappathi and Chicken Curry. The dinner will always be little emotional because again a get-together like this happens only during the Onam holidays.
