The Peruchazhi is a Malayalam comedy satire starring Mohanlal as Jaganathan the lead, Aju Vargheese, Baburaj, Vijay Babu, Mukesh, Rajani Nandwani among other supporting artists. The movie was directed by Arun Vaidyanathan and produced by Vijay Babu and Sandra Thomas for the Friday Film House.
Different scenes in this movie, getups and punch dialogues along with the background score project it as an entire entertainment movie.
Peruchazhi mainly revolves around the 2015 Governor's Election in the State of California of the United States of America. The movie starts with picturising the Campaign Headquarters of John Kory, where Sunny Kurishinkal is the Chief Campaign Advisor. From the first few scenes, the audiences came to know that John Kory, played by Sean James Sutton, is a man who doesn't know anything about politics. As a result of that, Sunny's election strategies are not working in increasing the ratings of Kory. John Kory blames everything on Sunny. He always complains about the tension to his friend and colleague Sachidananthan (Andi). Sachidananthan plans to offer Sunny's hair to Palani temple of Tamil Nadu, which shows their desperate need to make Kory win the Governor's election.
While relaxing at home after the hectic day at the office, Sunny talks about his concerns to his wife. As referred by his wife, consult with Francis Kunjappan, the PWD Minister of Kerala and got recommended to Jaganathan as the political consultant. Jagannathan is the political rival of Francis Kunjappan who aspires to open a sports academy. Jaganathan, along with his allies - Pottakkuzhi Jabbar and Vayalar Varkey reached the United States of America. Jaganathan uses Indian political tactics like influencing the media, influencing youth, using public stunt tactics, recruiting screenwriters to craft effective speeches, and so on. Jagannathan even helps John Kory to evade from a sexual allegation.If John Kory becomes the Governor of the State of California, Sunny Kurishinkal will be rewarded with a cabinet post. For achieving that post, Sunny should also limit the campaign spending within the budget. Unfortunately, by rendering the assistance of Jaganathan and his team the budget exceeded. Hence Sunny was forced to not to pay Jagannathan for his service.
In between Jagannathan's stay at California, he met Jessie, a prostitute and fell in love with her and even started dating her. After his job in America is over and the day before he leaves America he came to be in a fistfight with a group of thugs who were stalking Jessie for money. Losing the fistfight with Jazz (as Jessie calls Jaganathan) the thugs abduct Jessie's son and asks for ransom money. In order to pay that amount Jagannathan approach Sunny asks him to pay him the ransome amount as an advance. Sunny not only rejected the payment but also insulted him. After listening everything and warning Sunny about the loss of John Kory in the elections, Jaganaathan leaves the scene.
The election result day came as a shock for the Republicans, John Kory faces a disastrous defeat to George Hope. Then Sunny receives a call from Jagannathan and provides a clarification for the lose. When Jagannathan was in need, it was George Hope who helped him with the money; as a result, he joined the side of George Hope and Andy. He used the final trick of using fake voting machines that were manufactured by Dupli, who he met at the China City of Holywood for Hope. He disconnected the call by asking Sunny to watch the Television which screens the scandal video which was not wholly destroyed. The movie ends with picturizing the opening of JK Sports Academy by Mrs Anitha Sathyan, wife of late Indian Footballer Sathyan in the presence of Jaganathan, Jessie and his friends.
The movie comically picturized many situations like the opinion of Non-Residential Malayalees about Malayalee settled in Kerala, Indian's particularly Malayalee's tendency to break the rules, Malayalees addiction to Breaking News, gossips and controversies, Media's TRP fight, the short memories and lacking tendency of ordinary people to following up about the prior incidents, the ineffective representative system existing, Air hostesses in the Indian Airways, the restrictions for immigrants in the American Airports, the changing of the name of Sachithanandan - Anand - Andy, the interaction between Jaganathan and John Kory who don't have a universal medium of language, the politicians tendency to solve an issue by creating another one, the role of discriminations, hunger strikes (Sathyagraha) and ultra-nationalism in the global politics, the worldwide representation of Malayalees and Chinese people and the settling down of Indian especially Malayee actresses in the USA after marriage. The movie makes it more interesting because of the returning of the vintage Mohanlal - Mukesh combo.
